Kendel Hippolyte (1952)

Mamoyi   -Kendel Hippolyte (1952) (for my son, Daniel) The child is sleeping, folded in among the brown boughs of my arms, and a promise, formed beyond language, drawn upward like sap through a pith, stirs through me. In its slow course, i feel a vow so deep it does not reach the flower and fade of word but leaves me steeped, resined, in its truth. Because i wish this child, awake, a man, to know that he can keep, lifelong, the trust, the self-astonishing joy that he has now and he can draw from them the strength to make his true path from the place i am to where he will become, for his own child, a tree, i vow: these boughs will never break. Pasaporte Quemado

Image
-Elvis Rafael...

Cunyabe Cultural Center

Image
To whom it may concern, Art offers young people and adults a powerful tool to reflect, share, and imagine new possibilities in everyday life. Artists often find creative ways to share their work, helping others see the world from different perspectives. As Picasso once said,  “Art is a lie that brings us closer to the truth.”  In this sense, poetry and artistic expression open spaces for multi-generational dialogue and balance, encouraging the participation of children, youth, and adults in meaningful processes. These spaces of reflection allow us to explore concrete and creative alternatives for both individual and collective challenges. In the classroom, for example, we witness the power of poetry to stimulate brain plasticity and engage multiple intelligences in action. When poetry enters the classroom, the planet of learning expands, showing us that every student brings a unique way of seeing, thinking, and feeling. Cunyabe Cultural Center 1. Arte en el meollo (2019)

Image
“Arte en el Meollo” was a vibrant cultural night held on May 9, 2019, at Cafelao, Kiosk #13, in La Guancha, Ponce, starting at 7:00 p.m.  The event was moderated by cultural gestor, poet and artist: Mauricio Planchart-Navia, who led the evening with charisma and commitment.  I was in charge of promoting the event and coordinating the participation of some artists across various disciplines. This was a great opportunity. Local painters exhibited powerful works filled with color, symbolism, and emotion. Poetry was a key element, with intimate readings that resonated deeply with the audience.  A curated collection of photographs revealed everyday life through a critical and artistic lens.  Independent short films were screened, blending social commentary with cinematic creativity.  There was also a display of handcrafted masks representing hybrid identities and Caribbean traditions. Music, both live and recorded, accompanied the presentations with rhythm and atmosp...
