Do you think it's worth it to play the lottery? Why or why not?

Image
Now, let’s talk about the lottery. Do I think it is worth it? From a math and money point of view, the answer is no.  The lottery is a poor investment because the chances of winning are very small. It is not a good way to earn money or plan your future. We should not rely on it for financial security. But there is another way to see it.  For many, the dream of winning brings happiness and dopamine release, reducing stress in their daily lives. Thats why in the supermarket where I work, they got a "Play Room" (casino style) for the clients.  Sometimes, people play the lottery for fun.  Buying one ticket can feel exciting, like starting a new story. Many people enjoy dreaming about what they would do if they win. This dream can bring happiness and even help people feel less stress after a long day. Also, playing with others can be fun. For example, people at work might join together to buy tickets when the prize is very big. They talk, laugh, and share hope. It ...

How often do you read? Would you like to read more? Why or why not?

Image
"Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you" -Carlo Ruiz Zafón Im out of my shift in the supermarket. The history of "reading" as a human act haves some key concept that I want to mention: the origins, the alphabetic shift ,the printing press, mass reading and mass literacy. This keys guide me to answer this question.  I read very often because reading helps me learn and understand my human condition and the others. I am studying to be an English teacher, so books are very important in my life. I read stories, poems, and school texts. One story I read is  The Boy in the Striped Pajamas , and it helped me understand history of the Holocaust and the feelings about it. I also read short stories like  Araby  and fun books like  One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish , etc. I love poetry the most. I consider my self a poet.  More than for the classic writing itself, it's for the way I see the world in every thought, words and a...

What sources do you use to get your news? Why do you choose those sources?

Image
I found news relevant because you can generate your own perspective after consuming news. I read  San Juan Star  just to have the opportunity of reading in English. The  Center for Investigative Journalism has a legit platform. Some Facebook groups like  Noticias Salinas  and  Salinas Ayer y Hoy  help me stay connected to local realities. I also follow the journalist and author Rafael Acevedo from  Claridad . I follow Jay Fonseca since the 2010 student strike. I don’t consume much television, but for the weather I follow  Telemundo . I also follow Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly, the American commentator and journalist. I choose these sources because I believe progress starts with balance within the investigative canons "left wing versus right wing" always to arm ourselves intellectually. This diversity of sources allows me to compare narratives, detect bias, Biopolitics     and resist passive consumption of information. Bio politics i...

Do you think we can defeat domestic terrorism? Why or why not?

Image
"It IS About Islam" The title of Glenn Beck a 2015 book, which explain the statement argued that terrorism is rooted in Islamic theology rather than just political protest    violence. Im happy to live in a democracy. I also think that research and development from the universities should invest in intelligence, infrastructure protection, first responders, and social/civil resilience. With the goal on mind ; to lowers the death from terrorist attacks over time. Thats why national security its so important. Firstly, to generate a healthy identity can make a good country origin mindset.  Homeland Security, referring to the internal safety of a country. Is also relevant to defeat domestic terrorism.  Furthermore, domestic terrorism in the United States and in the Island is gradually driven by complex concepts , not in my grade of comprehension. But my intuition recognize that is "multilayered" the set of societal dynamics, including racism, intense political ...

Puerto Rico is experiencing a massive exodus of professionals. What can be done to prevent this?

Image
"Industry is not a collection of machines and tools and buildings. It is a social entity that has  the responsibility of realizing the happiness of those who work in it. " ( Luis A. Ferré, 1962,  TIME Magazine).  To begin with this discussion I have to start seeing that I have experience working in the states (Florida).  I stopped studying. But I never stopped learning from the  different jobs.  I have family in the states. My dad and our family live there.  They are part of  that “exodus” of professionals that reside in the states for more than 20 years. My stepmom and dad, they are puertorican professionals working. Puerto Rico needs to have more incentives. Tax incentives can encourage professionals to stay and work in Puerto Rico. This topic needs more research and development. To identify structures and differences is very important because we need more professionals that like reading, writing, and teaching. This phenomenon has always b...
