Arte en el meollo (2019)

“Arte en el Meollo” was a vibrant cultural night held on May 9, 2019, at Cafelao, Kiosk #13, in La Guancha, Ponce, starting at 7:00 p.m.

The event was moderated by cultural gestor, poet and artist: Mauricio Planchart-Navia, who led the evening with charisma and commitment.

I was in charge of promoting the event and coordinating the participation of some artists across various disciplines.

This was a great opportunity. Local painters exhibited powerful works filled with color, symbolism, and emotion. Poetry was a key element, with intimate readings that resonated deeply with the audience.

A curated collection of photographs revealed everyday life through a critical and artistic lens.

Independent short films were screened, blending social commentary with cinematic creativity.

There was also a display of handcrafted masks representing hybrid identities and Caribbean traditions. Music, both live and recorded, accompanied the presentations with rhythm and atmosphere. The event served as a space for artistic dialogue and connection between creators and the community.

“Arte en el Meollo” proved that art can be both resistance and celebration. The audience responded with great enthusiasm, affirming the need for more spaces like this in Ponce’s cultural life.
