How often do you read? Would you like to read more? Why or why not?

"Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you"

-Carlo Ruiz Zafón

Im out of my shift in the supermarket.

The history of "reading" as a human act haves some key concept that I want to mention: the origins, the alphabetic shift ,the printing press, mass reading and mass literacy. This keys guide me to answer this question.

I read very often because reading helps me learn and understand my human condition and the others.

I am studying to be an English teacher, so books are very important in my life. I read stories, poems, and school texts. One story I read is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and it helped me understand history of the Holocaust and the feelings about it. I also read short stories like Araby and fun books like One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, etc.

I love poetry the most. I consider my self a poet.

More than for the classic writing itself, it's for the way I see the world in every thought, words and actions.

I write my own poems and I am working on a big poetry book with many verses. Reading poetry helps me feel calm and meditative.

It also helps me understand my own life and the world around me.

Reading and writing gives me space for free expression and peace.

Sometimes I read news in English to practice and learn new words.

Yes, I would like to read more. Reading makes me a better student and a better future teacher.

It also helps me speak and write in English with more confidence. When I read, I can imagine new worlds and learn about different people and cultures.

Sometimes I feel tired or busy, and I cannot read as much as I want. But I know reading is important for my dreams. I want to help my future students love reading too. That is why I will keep reading every day, even if it is just a little bit. The class (ENGL 214) has shown me a world of possibilities for revising all my writings.
